Dragons are given a name when they emerge from their egg (their Wyrmling name) by their parents. When they are considered mature enough, they are given a second name that represents their individual accomplishments. Despite the age of the dragon, it is after their second naming ceremony that they are considered legal adults and are able to trade, own property, vote, etc. They are also given a fang amulet etched with both their wyrmling and adult names on it (Wyrmling on the reverse side), which will identify them in various forms. It also acts as identification, for few dragons would let this valuable item slip into the wrong hands. Most dragons, if not wearing it, keep it on their person, and a dragon can easily keep it on them in their true form as well.
1) Blue, Brass:
Wyrmling- Dune, Sandstorm, Oasis, Horizon, Dust
Adult- Saraya, Taimar, Verek
No difference between male and female names. Few sibilants, names are generally two to three syllables. One syllable of the mother’s name is usually incorporated into the name, although not always. (Example: the clutch of a female dragon named Maiven might have the adult names of Tekmai, Vendaya, and Keyven.)
2) Red, Gold:
Wyrmling- Kindle, Flicker, Blaze, Obsidian, Pumice
Adult- Efferendi-sshar, Ahassha-tek, Sshemell-sshar
Male names use the suffix “sshar,” while female named use the suffix “tek.” A combination of hissing sibilants and sharp sounds.
3) Black, Bronze:
Wyrmling- Spume, Froth, Wave, Puddle, Flood, Frith
Adult- Duterem, Cruthalel, Shukeren
Three syllables, emphasis on the second syllable with the first syllable almost dropped. The first syllable of the father’s name is often, but not always, incorporated into the name of his offspring. (Example: the clutch of a male dragon named Werketen might have the adult names of Thekelwer, Griswermel, and Crewermet.) No difference between male and female names.
Wyrmling- Leaf, Twig, Clover, Vine, Thorn
Adult- Allelli, Emerlli, Evendlli,
Male names begin with A-, female with E-, and all names end in “lli.”
Wyrmling- Frost, Rime, Floe, Winter, Chill
Adult- Ent Crellkir, Thon Shardkir, Derk Terkir
First names are one-syllable and simple, no distinctions between male and female names. Sometimes if a dragon’s wyrmling name is one syllable it will choose to keep its wyrmling name rather than take on a new one. Each dragon’s second name is his mother’s first name with the suffix kir added.
Wyrmling- Zephyr, Mistral, Nimbus, Aaerie, Alto, Cirro, Cumulo
Adult- Vaenti, Ilaendre, Traesel
No differentiation between male and female names, the letter combination “ae” is always included in the name. Names are usually three syllables but can be four or even five.
Wyrmling- Riddle, Puzzle, Query, OR any of the above styles
Adult- Any of the above styles, or any invented name.
Some Hybrid dragons will be given a name by the parent who raised them the most, or by a compromise by both parents of a name they both like. Some are also given a name using the conventions of both parents, though this can be difficult to do for some styles, especially those that are incompatible.
