Dragon Ridge Mountains and Beyond
Beyond the Dragon Ridge Mountains lay what is called the Dragonlands, ever so creatively. However, the term is accurate. Most humans and other races were run out from this area hundreds of years ago, leaving the dragons and their kobold underlings to set up the massive mining operations that dominate the land. The dragon-worshipping kobolds toil in the mines, harvesting materials both mundane and rare for their masters. The underworld is full of deadly creatures, so a young Kobold must master traps and explosives if he wants to survive. Run ins with drow, underdwarves, just normal dwarves, and other creatures can prove fatal for an entire clan of Kobolds. Generally Kobolds eat what they can find, usually spider flesh or that of other beasts that try to kill them in these depths. Evil and neutral dragons rarely pay these creatures for their efforts, and Good dragons often believe that Kobolds are vile, evil creatures who deserve their lot. Some clans of Kobolds have tried to escape these mines and become refugees in Jarek, but few escape their dragon masters’ wrath.
The inner heart of the dragonlands is thick rainforest and jungle, the mineral rich areas being around the mountainous coasts. Some scattered clans of humans and elves still live in these forests, but only those who hide can survive the occasional kobold or dragon raids, along with attacks from forest creatures. Even more south still is the inhospitable desert, but few non-dragons have been there, and even fewer return.
