The Story So Far

Our story begins with our main characters. They are Maelys, the charming and intelligent ‘changeling’ oracle, Gertrude, the promiscuous and suspicious gnome wizard/alchemist, Mikael, the stupid but noble aaismar paladin, and Sebastian, the fabulous rogue/summoner of an originally unknown race. Sebastian is accompanied by his crablike eidolon, Rakin. They are hired by the king of Atell under pain of death to accompany a famous sea captain on a voyage to discover other lands who will aid the king in the war against Jarek. Atell and the other nations of Phembria are currently at war with Jarek due to the orcs of Jarek destroying a holy city of the mother queen goddess Aaia, most worshipped of the gods. Gertrude and Mikael come from Phembria, while Sebastian’s origins are unknown and Maelys apparently is from the deserts of the dragonlands. They go on this boat, and the captain dies soon on the voyage. They sail across the sea but are stopped by the navy of another country, Uldok, the existance of which was unknown to the Phembrine. Uldok is highly technologically and magically advanced, ruled by the intelligent but impulsive ruler, Tsar Dmitri Alkavov. Dmitri is a tiefling (a hybrid of a devil and a mortal, usually human) and a wizard of incredible power. They take the group to see him in the capitol city of Uldok, Kirov. He does not wish to help the group or their king, as he is on the other side of another war that the king does not support. This war, known as the God Witch War, is between the Witches of Lut (a planet in another dimension) and the gods. Dmitri is even engaged to one of these witches, the kind but shy Chrysal, witch of Fauna. She and one of her fellow witches, Iris, hail from a race known only as the Winged, which are like humans but lighter and with WINGS. Dmitri summons one of his many wizards, Monroe to see if the group is the ones who Monroe thought could help them. They are, and Dmitri tells them that he will consider their offer if they can go talk to Melkar and Setelli, the sibling gods of magic. Maelys worships them, so she accepts.
They attend a party where they meet many people who will become characters of major or minor significance. Alleuia is a paladin/oracle who hates the undead, especially Dmitri’s adoptive brother, Vizier Helorie. Vizier Helorie is a lich wizard and a masterful creator of golems. He is also Dmitri’s most trusted advisor. The two strongly dislike each other, though Helorie strongly dislikes almost everyone. We also meet von Wolff, an semi-insane alchemist addicted to opium. He and Sebastian loudly leave the party to hook up, embarrassing Maelys.
The next morning they go to visit Melkar and Setelli. The gods reveal that they did not kill Scula (the witch of magic), and only took her body so they could make her a goddess. They dislike Aaia and are going to support the witches in the war. To ressurect Scula they need the Staff of Pallistar, a legendary artifact left behind when Pallistar, one of the children of Aaia, was stripped of his status as a god by his mother. It is in a chapel/dungeon. The group goes to visit there.
It is revealed by Gertrude that Sebastian is also a tiefling, but does not know who his infernal father is. Maelys accepts him for who he is, but Mikael and Gertrude are not as enthusiastic. They go through the dungeon, fighting various people. Eventually they find the staff of Pallistar, guarded by a sad ex-angel of Pallistar. His name is Mordekai. They convince him to come with them, and everyone goes back to Melkar and Setelli.
Melkar and Setelli give Scula this object, and she is awakened as the goddess of pure magic (as opposed to Melkar’s Lawful and Setelli’s Chaotic magics). She returns with the group to the palace. Dmitri is very impressed by their efforts, and offers them a job. Ignoring their previous employment, they accept. Dmitri orders that a house be constructed for them to live in, and gives them badges as a symbol of their new loyalty. He also summons Mikael’s secret wife, Krysti.
Months pass. Sebastian loses his addiction to opium, as well as von Wolff, and they start dating. Monroe, who is von Wolff’s best friend, befriends Sebastian as well as Maelys. Their house is built, and they live there. The imperial wedding is set for the beginning of spring, and a young teen named Ehimay comes to Kirov to find the people who killed his father. He is hired by Chrysal to take care of her animals. Ehimay has a special connection with animals and their god, Oppo, as well as being an excellent marksman. Scula has been sucking the life out of animals and Monroe, who Dmitri has appointed to be her personal servant, despite his wizard skills. She makes the animals go berzerk! Luckily Sebastian and Gertrude are there to help Ehimay fight the berzerk animals. Ehimay is soon attached to Sebastian, calling him his father.
The wedding arrives and it’s terrible. Helorie is Dmitri’s best man, and Scula is Chrysal’s maid of honor. But terrorists attack, killing many of the guests and bombing the gardens. The party is able to help, killing the terrorists and discovering they were members of the Sanguine Order, a guild of assasins that live in one of the Shimenese countries, Heimen (pron: HEY MEHN). All four of the Shimenese countries are ruled by sibling Couatls, but Rajah Zolin (the ruler of this country) is the most flexible and lazy of the rulers, letting his people do what they wish. We discover that Alleuia is the avatar of Orred, the god of law and justice and that Maelys is a dragon!! It is revealed that Monroe’s life force is not being sucked out, but that he is becoming Scula’s Exarch, a person with a special connection to a god. The Tsar was mind-controlling Scula! Maelys chews him out. Then, the group goes on an epic journey to this country. On the road outside Kirov they encounter a mysterious man who turns Ehimay’s gun into a lobster. He poses riddles to them, before revealing he is an ozodrin (a creature that can transform between abomination and humanoid form) and flying off. They encounter Atl, a young Anmen scholar who wishes to become a bureaucrat. To become one, he must pass tests and undergo a magical ritual which transforms him into a Couatl. Ehimay thinks that they’re just killing him and shoots guards, causing major social problems.
The group enters the capitol city of Heimen, and meet many people. Karm is Sebastian’s old jail friend and ex. Keberii is his sister. Xavier is the bounty hunter looking for Gertrude. She is wanted for murder, but escapes. Keberii and her friends help the group find the headquarters of the Sanguine Order, but they cannot enter the door. It is then that the mysterious man shows up again, to give them a dark key that feeds on blood, but will let them open the door.
Inside, they ignore all the people, ruining the dungeon master’s hours of planning. They discover slaves and other captives, freeing them. But they do not find the souls of various people they wished to save. They also discover that Chancellor Centehua, ruler of Anmen, was the one behind the attacks, worshipping Aaia. In the end, they must fight Katerina, a terrifying oracle lich. It is revealed her true form is a catfolk. She is the sister of one of Gertrude’s friends, Valista! Valista is also a cat. She comes out through her dimensional shortcut to talk threaten the group before they are saved by the mysterious man again. He tells them for this help they must go on a trip for him in two years and six months.
He teleports them back to Helorie’s bedroom. Helorie is reasonably upset by this, but is interested in their story. Dmitri and Chrysal are interested as well, and Dmitri calls a conference the next morning.
The conference goes terribly, but most of Dmitri’s guests are willing to help him. Maelys gives a beautiful speech. During the meeting, Maelys and Sebastian learn that Rakin is the exarch of Kalev. Rakin hangs out with his other friends, the dickish Moonlight Knights. Maelys is forced to duel them for Sebastian’s Honor as Sebastian goes to cry on von Wolff, who also threatens the knights. Rakin chews Sebastian out for being a wuss, but later apologizes. The gang also meets various other exarchs and people, only some of whom are important. We have Larstin Nerstil, the former headmaster of a wizard’s college, Kerstil the Shifting, exarch and son of Setelli, Cigyn, daughter of the mysterious man and others.
There is an unimportant bit about fruit baskets that I was willing to skip if people didn’t make it such a big deal.
Helorie told the group that they had to infiltrate a wizard college, The Academy of the Perfect One. This school also happens to be Helorie and Dmitri’s Alma Mater, although maybe not because they dropped out. He knows that people there are planning to infiltrate the royal vaults, a network of tunnels and caves beneath the palace that can be used to destroy or invade the palace. Helorie’s phylactery (aka horcrux) is also in these vaults. The group arrives, pretending to be students. They are the worst students ever. Through the course of their time at college, they attack a teacher, skip class, vanish into the ether, kill a bandersnatch and yell at people. They discover that two dragon professors are behind the plan, believing Helorie to be an evil monster that must be destroyed! Maelys calls up Helorie to ask him if he’s evil, and he admits to being such. Helorie then proceeds to tell a rather boring story. One day, he and Dmitri were young and exploring the countryside. But they provoked soldiers, who chopped Dmitri’s limbs off. Helorie was forced to take care of his nonresponsive brother and make him artificial limbs. Dmitri will still never talk about this event. After everyone wakes up from the dull story, they realize that Helorie does have evil thoughts in his heart, but has put them aside… for now.
The group then had a terrible party. While many people came, it was ruined by anti-imperial protestors. Nobody figured out who did it. Then, they had to meet a pair of priest brothers, their bodyguard and their friend, because a church was burned down. Elian, the good priest brother physically burned down the church, while Illiam, the evil priest brother masterminded the plot. Ulmer the bodyguard had nothing to do with it, and Jason Aber helped. Going home, they found one of the dragon professors from before, and were able to subdue her. Taking her to the palace, Helorie heartlessly killed her, without a thought. Maelys remembered that Jason Aber used to be Monroe’s owner.
Next, the Tsar sent the group to a celestial prison to break out Gala, Witch of Chaos. They succeeded, but not before Mikael’s mother was killed. She was working at the prison as a guard, despite the fact she hated prisons. As the group returned, Alleuia was found killing Alliza, one of the vampire children. Although Alleuia had expressed dark sentiments against the undead before, this was the breaking point in the friendship between her and Maelys. Helorie was shocked and horrified, as he had befriended the girl during this time.
They went to the Tsar’s secret underwater fortress. There, we saw Kerstil and Larstin again. Kerstil tried to flirt with Maelys, but she didn’t notice. We also met the avatars of Kalev and Terill, as well as Terill’s current wife, the princess of the moon. Ehimay went missing, and stole a ring that had deeper significance than he would ever know. Meanwhile, the Tsar took everyone on a tour, and there was food to eat. Ehimay brought back his ring, and Alleuia accidentally knocked it out of his hand, stepping on it. Helorie saw, and for reasons not then known he attacked her in a rage, although the fight was very even. Helorie sheepishly came back in the room, mumbling apologies, but Alleuia did not return. The Tsar gave everyone magical telephone orbs.
While walking down the street, a tragedy occured. Ehimay was stabbed in the neck and died. Sebastian was heartbroken over this turn of events, and couldn’t even give the eulogy at his son’s funeral. Von Wolff had to finish it. Maelys and Helorie talked together, and discovered that Ehimay’s soul was sent to hell. They kept this information from the already sad Sebastian.
They went to a village that was in a blockade. This adventure was boring so I will summarize it shortly. They were all cultists. The man was secretly a succubi, and therefore a woman. Then the group went back home.
There they attended Alliza’s funeral, which Helorie was not happy about. He was even less happy when Alleuia showed up! Orred has possessed her and tried to make her appologize, but Helorie did not accept her apology! Marie was sent to music school, as it was no longer safe to have her in the palace.
The group went to rob a palace of its things, making money for the Tsar. There they found the mysterious artifact, the Deck of Many Things. While many things happened as a result of the deck, nothing was as important as learning Aaia’s ultimate plan.
This plan is in some other post.
After this, they informed the Tsar. He rubbed his beard knowingly, and summoned a council meeting. There many things were said and many plans were made. Sebastian was a woman for this part, but that’s not important. The Tsar continues to refuse to admit that he has prosthetic limbs.
Everyone is at home, relaxing. Suddenly, Monroe comes! He tells everyone that von Wolff was arrested. They go to the jail, and von Wolff is released on bail. Suddenly, Gertrude is kidnapped. We don’t know much about this yet, but she pretends that she wasn’t.
Then, The Tsar summons them to the palace. He’s worried about his anniversary parade being ruined. The group talks to the priest brothers. Illiam is suprisingly open about his plans to ruin the parade. Maelys arrests him and his brother Elian. Illiam invokes an old right to see the Tsar. Maelys takes him to the Tsar, where he promptly blows himself up.
The bombs attack magic, and the Tsar’s prosthetics refuse to work. He sits there for the next thirty minutes as Maelys mutters to him, and Elian runs away. Helorie finally arrives to comfort his brother as Chrysal yells at him.
Then, they take the Tsar out of the palace and to their house. There, The Tsar tells them to return to the church and talk to the brothers and arrest them again! This time does not go so well, and everyone except for Mikael is killed. This is fortune, as his wife has just given birth to three beautiful children.
